Blackman's Next Stop: NC State

Williamsport (Pa.) Running Back Darrell Blackman has finished his brief stint at Hargrave Military Academy and is ready to make his way to NC State.

"Everything's going good," Darrell Blackman told StateFans from his home in Williamsport. "I graduated from Hargrave last weekend, and the next step is for me to go to NC State in July."

Darrell originally signed with the Wolfpack last February but due to academics he was forced to enroll at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va.

"I think Hargrave's sending my transcripts up to NC State this week so they are good to go," Blackman said. "I got my scores a few months before graduation so all I needed to do at that point was graduate."

Wolfpack signees Willie Young, Andre Brown, and Lemarte McGhee are still attempting to gain eligibility for the upcoming season and it's been rumored that all three could end up at Hargrave. Darrell believes that attending prep school can only improve each player.

"It will only make them better if they have to go to Hargrave," he said. "At first I didn't like it, but it helped me out a lot by getting stronger and more experienced. I think it would be good for them if that's what they have to do."

In April NC State held it's annual spring game and Blackman was in attendance. He had a chance to watch his future teammates in action and talk with the Wolfpack coaches about their expectations of him.

"The team looked nice," he said. "I'm just ready to get in there and play. The coaches are expecting me to come in right away and play. I'm just going to push T.A. and make sure he's doing his job so we can get things going."

Most expect Blackman to arrive at NC State in July and compete for early playing time right away. He's considered one of the top running backs in the country.

Blackman Scouting Report: Darrell has great speed (4.44 40) and natural instincts for a running back. He has uncanny vision to spot holes and above-average cutback ability. He runs with a nice body lean to always gain yardage and at 6'0 200 pounds runs between the tackles equally as well as on the edge. He has good hands and is a solid pass-catcher. Blackman gives NC State a "home-run hitter" at tailback, having the ability to score anytime he touches the football. However, his most important trait could be the leadership qualities which he possesses. Darrell has an engaging personality and players love to play with him. He will be a great teammate in Raleigh and has an outstanding future at NC State.
