How it all went down

NC State has been a frequent visitor to Belle Glade, Fla and in 2001, set their sights on standout WR Santonio Holmes. Holmes made an official visit to NC State on Dec. 7, 2001 and by all accounts, came away with NC State very near the top of his favorite's list. Despite offers from the Pack, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh and others, Holmes narrowed his list to just two around mid-December of 2001-those finalists consisting of NC State and Ohio State. On Jan. 25 of 2002, Holmes made an official visit to Ohio State but many still felt the Pack would ultimately land the talented WR because of the Pack's presence in Florida and State's involvement with teammate Garland Heath. On Jan. 29, Holmes chose Ohio State while Heath selected the Pack on Jan. 30.
