StateFans: Has the process slowed down some since the May Evaluation period is over?
Toney Baker: "Yes sir, a little bit. A lot of mail is still coming through though."
SF: What did you think of the evaluation period with coaches being able to contact you?
Baker: "I thought it went great. I was able to talk with some new coaches and it was a great opportunity for me."
SF: I'm sure several schools have already offered you scholarships. How many do you have so far?
Baker: "Honestly, I have no idea. I just know it's a lot."
SF: Early on it seemed like you had already narrowed your list down. Are you open to new schools or are you just considering Virginia Tech, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and NC State?
Toney Baker was the top prospect in attendance at the Ragsdale Shrine Bowl combine, showcasing his speed here as he turns in a 4.37 40 mark.
Baker: "I'm really trying to check out those five schools, but the door is open. I'm going to explore all my options."
SF: What do you believe will be the #1 factor in your decision?
Baker: "Really it's going to be where I feel comfortable. I'll have to be there for four years, so that's important. Also, what my role is going to be."
SF: I know you get asked this a lot, but are you leaning anywhere or do certain schools stick out?
Baker: "All five schools are sticking out, but State's looking good... real good. Virginia's been looking real good lately. I can't say I have just one favorite though because I can end up at any of those five schools."
SF: What about Virginia and NC State makes them look good at this point?
Baker: "I'm looking at what they have and are not going to have. At State with Philip Rivers leaving I have the opportunity to see how they react, and I can watch their offense for a year. As far as Virginia, their quarterback just left also. With Carolina they'll lose Durant next year, so I won't really be able to see how they'll react to that. I'd like to have a balanced offense, so I'm just sitting back watching this year."
SF: Finally, I wanted your thoughts on each program on your list. First, what do you like about the Virgina Tech Hokies?
Baker: "I like their history with running backs. I haven't had a chance to visit the school, but I've talked with the head coach, and I liked him. I just need to get down there for a visit."
SF: What about Tennessee?
Baker: "I went to a game there my sophomore year and it was just the best thing I've seen. It was pouring raining but there was still over 100,000 fans in the stadium. It was crazy."
Baker: "I really like the coaching staff at Virginia and the running backs coach. They have pretty nice facilities and the players seemed cool. I really liked it there a lot. I didn't get to check out the campus, so I'll like to do that."
SF: North Carolina?
Baker: "I love the coaching staff at Carolina and it's a real pretty place. I like it, but I'm just sitting back trying to see how they will do this year."
SF: NC State?
Baker: "I like what they have going on right now. They have a beautiful facility and have a confidence about them that I like. They are looking real good right now... they really are."
SF: How is your timeframe setting up? Would you like to take all five visits before announcing your decision?
TB: "I can't really say for sure. I'd like to take all five visits, but I'd also like to choose after my football season. I think when I know where I want to go then that's when I'll commit."
