Parting from a long tradition of showcasing some of the area's best college players, Raleigh's Chavis League will exclude Division I players this summer. League director Chris Moore said Friday that paperwork oversights prevented the league from receiving the necessary NCAA sanction, which would have allowed players from larger Division I colleges to participate. According to its Web site, the NCAA requires summer league application submissions to be postmarked or faxed 45 days before the start of league play. Read More

Just call it a new high-water mark for NC State athletics. During the course of the 2003-04 season, a school record 14 teams qualified for postseason play. That figure looks even more impressive when compared to 2002-03, when only seven Wolfpack teams made it to the postseason. Among the programs returning after missing out the previous year were men's soccer, gymnastics, wrestling, women's basketball, rifle, women's outdoor track and men's outdoor track. Read More
