The Miami (Fl) native gives the hometown Hurricanes a slight lead over the Wolfpack, Trojans, Sooners, Buckeyes and Tigers -- all have offered. "Barney is really big and he has really good feet, too," said one college coach.
"I like the coaches and tradition at Miami," said Barney. "A coach told me that 83% of the classes I'd take there have 20 or less students, which means I could get more direct learning than (I would) sitting in a class with over 60 students. They are closer to home and I can get better academic support there. Players who have played there tell me the support team helps you out a lot."
"NC State got my attention when the coaches came down here to visit. They've got a connection to south Florida because coach (Chuck) Amato used to recruit south Florida kids when he was with Florida State. I like coach Amato and (asst. head) coach (John "Doc") Holliday because they are cool coaches but I also know that they going to get on me if I don't do what I'm supposed to."
"'SC has always been somewhere that I've wanted to go. They're getting to the peak of their talent, they're growing and developing. (WR) Coach (Lane) Kiffin and the other coaches say they like the way I can dominate the play in front of me and how I never give up on a play."
"I'm going to sit down and talk with my family and see what they say. I been hearing from some of them that I should go to Miami and stay close to home, but I haven't heard from everybody yet. If my mom says she needs my help, that she hopes I don't leave, then I'll have to stay home and go to Miami."
"I know (DT) Clifton Dickson and (CB) Trevor Ford at Florida St--they both went to my high school. I talked to Ford the other day, and he told me about what a nice place it is and that I should take one of my official visits there."
"I'm looking for a college program that's 50/50: 50% run and 50% pass. I want to be able to pass block too. I maul people in run blocking and put them on their back: I had 54 pancakes last year. I'm working on my kick step from a three-point stance so I can pass block better. I'm better in a left-hand stance because I've always played left tackle."
"I'm going to take my official visits and probably announce my decision on (national letter of intent) signing day."
