Pack Looking Strong For Talented PA OL

Michael Turkovich is one of the Keystone State's top OL prospects. We've got the latest and Turkovich talks about NC State, his trip to camp and commitment timetable.

Although he has not been a common name to Wolfpack fans, at least up until this point- it's safe to say that OL Michael Turkovich of Bedord, Pa will become a definite player of interest over the next several weeks.

Playing at Bedford High School, Turkovich made the decision prior to his junior year to transfer to Valley Forge Military Academy in order to face a higher level of competition and hopefully prepare himself for collegiate football.

A tight end earlier in his career, Turkovich has blossomed into an agile offensive tackle and emerged as one of Valley Forge's most promising athletes. Last year he was named the academy's most outstanding athlete.

Turkovich (6-7, 275 pounds and boasting 5.0-second speed in the 40-yard dash) talked about his abilities as an OT.

"I think I'm pretty athletic," said Turkovich. "I'm at 275 (pounds) and I'm still pretty thin. I think I'm pretty quick and I work hard and pick up things easily. Pass-blocking wise, I play basketball so that helps me get in position and keep myself between the QB and the defender. Everyone likes me as a LT since I'm left-handed."

So far Turkovich has earned scholarship offers from West Virginia, Duke, Wisconsin, Boston College, UNC and NC State. The Pack learned of Turkovich by chance and have been on the talented big man ever since.

"Mike Barry (Pack OL coach) is actually recruiting me," said Turkovich. "He was up in NJ and came down and saw me at a combine and has been recruiting me ever since."

The State coaches convinced the rising senior to attend camp in Raleigh earlier this month and it appears the trip was a resounding success.

"I went down to NC State for camp and it was a great camp," he said. "When I went down there I was like hey, they've put a lot of money into their program with the new facilities. And then Coach Amato, he's been doing a great job. You know he did a great job at Florida State and now he's come their and really built the program up.

"I got to work out with Coach Barry and he helped me out a lot showing me new techniques and showing me how to play offensive tackle. I just really enjoyed coming down to camp. It was a lot of fun."

While he's hesitant to name any particular leaders, Turkovich did indicate that the Pack is a team that's very much in the running. He also plans to settle on a future school in the very near future.

"State is definitely one of my top choices. I mean, that's pretty much it. If I had to name a top school they would be number one or number two. I like the coach, I like the school, I like the setting down there in Raleigh- it's a real nice city. So definitely it's one of my top choices.

"I plan to commit at the end of this month or the beginning of August but definitely before the beginning of my senior season because I want to have some fun and be able to enjoy my senior year."

Turkovich projects as a full qualifier and is undecided on a college major but is considering Business or Engineering.
