DE Greg Peterson of Hinds Community College has been a rumored lean to NC State for months. Peterson was a monster DE for East Duplin High School in Beulaville, NC but went somewhat unnoticed by recruiting gurus despite putting together a stellar senior campaign.
NC State was reportedly extremely impressed with Peterson and referred him to Hinds Community College in Raymond, Ms. He spent this past year bulking up and together with teammate and Pack commitment Chad Green became a talented duo on the Hinds defensive line. Pack Pride caught up with Peterson to find out if he was still considering the Wolfpack.
"Yeah, NC State- that's where I plan on going," said Peterson. "I already committed and told the coaches I'm coming. I'm really excited about coming up there. I'm not visiting any other schools, I'm just sticking with State."
Peterson talked about what swayed him to make a commitment to NC State.
"I like everything about NC State," he said. "It's close to home. I like the stadium. I like the coaches. They were looking at me from high school and sent me to Mississippi to get my grades up. That's just really where I want to go. Doc Holliday is recruiting me and I like him. He's a good guy."
Peterson has grown into a sizeable defensive end and talked about what he feels are his strengths and what he hopes to improve on during the 2004 season
"Right now I'm at 6-5, 260 pounds," Peterson said. "My best 40 time I've run is 4.5 (seconds). State is recruiting me as a defensive end. I feel like I'm a really good pass rusher but I need to work on my technique and improve my speed. But pass rushing is my strong suit."
Peterson received interest and offers from several schools but has just one destination in mind for 2005.
"UNC, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Mississippi State were all trying to get me," Peterson said. "But I'll be up at State next May."
