Evans finished the night completing 3 of 6 passes for five yards while adding an 11-yard bootleg late in the game. With East Carolina signee Patrick Pinkney receiving the majority of the snaps, Daniel's chances to shine were limited in the East's 10-7 defeat.
"You always wish you can get more snaps in a game this big," he said following the loss. "But, you never get to play with a group of guys like this in high school so it was great. I played alright when I was in, but you can always do better."
With his final high school game now behind him, the Raleigh (NC) Broughton quarterback's focus turns to NC State. He arrives on campus without the high expectations that generally accompany an incoming quarterback recruit, but he views that as an advantage.
"I guess I don't have the high expectations that other quarterbacks have coming in so I'll be able to work in the weight room and get stronger without much pressure," he said. "I'll probably redshirt because it's really between Jay and Marcus right now, but I just want to help the team out the best that I can."
Daniel had a terrific senior season at Broughton, completing 272 of 473 passes for 3,796 yards and 37 TDs. Despite posting those prolific numbers he flew under the national recruiting radar but pointed out that NC State recruited him throughout the process.
"I just stayed patient because I knew that was where I wanted to go," he said. "I came up for the official visit before signing day and everything just fell into place."
Playing in a spread offense for four years at Broughton has Daniel prepared to work with NC State's offensive system. The exciting style of play is something that he loves about the Wolfpack.
"I love it," he said. "They spread it out real good, and I like Coach Mazzone. I think the offensive staff does a really good job, and it's going to be great being over there."
Evans reports to NC State for practice beginning August 5th and he is ready to begin his career.
"Chuck Amato always says to shoot for the stars and that has stuck with me," Evans added. "Being at State I'll just help out and do what they ask of me. I'm looking forward to all of it."
