NC State has apparently taken their search north for a WR after reportedly offering a scholarship to WR Lavar Lobdell of Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse, NY.
Duke commit QB Greg Paulus is considered to be one of the nation's top signal-callers and his primary target has often been Lobdell. Last year, the 6-3, 195-pound wideout with 4.5-second speed in the 40-yard dash hauled in 29 receptions for 556 yards in helping lead his team to an impressive 9-1 record. For his efforts he was named all-city second team in addition to receiving all-state third team honors.
Rated a 4-star prospect and the No. 6 WR in the nation by TheInsiders.com, Lobdell has taken a laid-back approach to recruiting and instead, has chose to primarily focus on his upcoming season. However, when the time approaches to get serious about recruiting, the rising senior has a couple of factors he'll be playing close attention to when recruiting hits high gear later in the year.
"It's going down to academics and how comfortable I feel with the school," said Lobdell. "Location won't play a factor in my decision. I'm really focused on my upcoming season so I haven't really thought about a timetable yet."
Lobdell will have quite a few schools from which to choose as he's earned scholarship offers from West Virginia, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Wisconsin, Arizona State, Virginia Tech, NC State and Buffalo. The all-state prospect indicated that he's currently open to all the teams that have offered but NC State was a program he had "legitimate" interest in.
"NC State offered me about two weeks ago," said Lobdell. "I'm not narrowing down my choices just yet though and I'm keeping an open mind about the schools that have offered me. But just like some of the other schools that have offered me, I like watching NC State on Saturdays. I like what I see and I like that they're a passing team. They've been pretty good in the ACC and that's a real competitive conference. So I'm definitely looking at them."
Lobdell is a fine student in the classroom, having scored a 1080 on the SAT. He hopes to major in Business in college.
