Pack Pride breaks down North Carolina's elite football prospects.

Pack Pride breaks down the top 30 prospects in the state of NC. Today we shine the spotlight on the top 10 players in the state. All player rankings are the opinion of the staff at Pack Pride and are in no way related to any recruiting list of the NC State coaching staff.

No. 1

RB Toney Baker

5-11, 215 pounds, 4.4-seconds in the 40...Ragsdale High School, Jamestown, NC

Scouting report- Phenomenal running back who is defined by his vision and instincts. Possesses tremendous speed and cutting ability, runs tough between the tackles and can catch the ball out of the backfield. Combine all of his physical abilities with a super personality and you get the state's top football prospect for the class of 2005.

Scholarship Offers- Baker basically has a scholarship offer to play for any school he chooses

Favorites- NC State, Virginia, UNC, Tennessee, Virginia Tech

Where does State stand- Baker has several friends already at State and he was blown away by the fan support when visiting Carter-Finley last year. Coach Cignetti and staff have done a super job establishing a relationship with Baker.

No. 2

DE/TE Everette Brown

6-4, 240 pounds, 4.55-seconds in the 40...Beddingfield High School, Wilson, NC

Scouting report- Fabulous two-way athlete that can dominate from his DE spot or torch opposing defenses with his speed and athleticism at TE. At DE has super quickness and ability to make plays. Runs great and finds ways to get to the ball-carrier. May be just as effective at TE. Combines great size with reliable hands and has the size to eventually become a force when blocking.

Scholarship offers- Close to 20 offers including NC State, UNC, Duke, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Miami and Florida State.

Favorites- Brown has no specific favorites but NC State, UNC, Florida State, Tennessee, Miami and Virginia Tech appear to be the main contenders.

Where does State stand- Brown has visited State and the Pack appears to be a serious contender but the out-of-state schools calling could be a huge hurdle for State. Coach Diaz has done a fine job in establishing State as one of the schools Brown is taking a hard look at.

No. 3

ATH Montario Hardesty

6-0, 190 pounds, 4.4-seconds in the 40...New Bern (NC) High School

Scouting report- Hardesty is one of those rare athletes that one would expect to see in Florida. His combination of good size and blazing speed could make him a potential threat on the D-1 level at a number of positions including RB, WR, S or LB. Most project him currently as a S but his talent is such that he can't be pigeon-holed into just one spot.

Scholarship offers- Approximately 16 offers including NC State, UNC, Nebraska, Clemson, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.

Favorites- Has shied away from naming particular favorites but quietly, many had thought NC State and Florida State to be the early front-runners. FSU may have faded a bit but the Pack, along with UNC, Virginia Tech, Nebraska, Tennessee and Clemson look strong currently.

Where does State stand- The Pack made Hardesty a priority from day one and some reports have him as one of State's top prospects, regardless of position. We think State has a super chance here. Hardesty has visited Raleigh several times and feels comfortable with the coaches and players. A commit from teammate Julian Williams could help the Pack's cause.

No. 4

QB Jonathan Crompton

6-3, 210 pounds, 4.8-seconds in the 40...Tuscola High School, Waynesville, NC

Scouting report- Big, strong-armed QB. Not the most agile QB but can make all the throws and possesses a world of potential. Recognized by most as one of the nation's top signal-callers. Needs to improve on sub-50% career completion percentage.

Scholarship offers- Numerous, including Miami, UNC, Clemson, LSU, Virginia and Georgia.

Favorites- Tennessee verbal commitment

No. 5

TE/DE Jonathan Hannah

6-5, 250 pounds, 4.78-seconds in the 40...South View High School, Hope Mills, NC

Scouting report- Explosive off the line of scrimmage, Hannah can be a devastating tackler that wreaks havoc in opposing backfields. Doesn't have blazing speed but has good lateral quickness. As a TE, compares more favorably to Sean Berton than Willie Wright. Has the potential to be a dominating OG as well.

Scholarship offers- More than a dozen including NC State, East Carolina, UNC, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, Penn State, Maryland and Clemson.

Favorites- Virginia Tech has reportedly held a slight lead over NC State with Penn State, Florida State, Oklahoma and others in the mix as well.

Where does State stand- Some have thought Hannah to be a shoo-in for the Pack considering both parents are NC State grads. However, that isn't the case. The Wolfpack will have to recruit Hannah as if there were no family connections, taking nothing for granted. NC State could very well land Hannah but it will be a long process.

No. 6
WR Mohamed Massaquoi

6-2, 190 pounds, 4.5-seconds in the 40....Independence High School, Charlotte, NC

Scouting report- Massaquoi has been one of the state's most productive wide receivers since arriving at Independence as a freshman. He's athletic, proficient, and excels in Independence's wide-open offense. Look for him to post huge numbers in his final season.

Scholarship offers- Duke, NC State, Tennessee, Georgia, Clemson, North Carolina among others.

Favorites- Georgia Verbal

No. 7
LB Derek Nicholson

5-11, 225 pounds, 4.65-seconds in the 40....Mt. Tabor High School, Winston-Salem, NC

Scouting report- Very productive linebacker who's been groomed to play the position by his father Darrell Nicholson, an All-American at UNC. Derek's physical and instinctive, but not the biggest or fastest linebacker out there. However, he's always around the ball and makes big plays.

Scholarship offers- 40+ offers including all his favorites

Favorites- Florida State, UNC, Clemson, Michigan, Notre Dame, Miami, Virginia, Virginia Tech

Where does State stand- NC State is no longer involved.

No. 8
OL Curtis Crouch

6-6, 315 pounds, 5.2-seconds in the 40....E.E. Smith High School, Fayetteville, NC

Scouting report- Physical lineman who plays both ways for the Golden Bulls. Explosive off the line of scrimmage and is athletic enough to pull and lead block. Projects as an offensive lineman on the next level.

Scholarship offers- NC State, Oklahoma, Virginia, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, East Carolina

Favorites- NC State

Where does State stand- NC State is recruiting the hardest and the current leader.

No. 9
QB Cameron Sexton

6-1, 175 pounds, 4.4-seconds in the 40....Scotland Co. High School, Laurinburg, NC

Scouting report- Sexton is an athletic dual-threat passer who has received heavy attention from major programs this season. He can make nearly every throw possible and has very good fundamentals.

Scholarship Offers- NC State, UNC, Clemson, Virginia Tech, FSU among others

Favorites- NC State, UNC, Clemson, FSU, and Virginia Tech

Where does State stand- NC State is recruiting very hard and have offered, but given the recent commitment from Mike Greco, it remains to be seen how interested Sexton will be in the Wolfpack.

No.10
ATH Levin Neal

5-11, 185 pounds, 4.35-seconds in the 40.... Ashley High School, Wilmington, NC

Scouting report- Neal burst on the scene at the Charlotte Shrine Bowl combine where he ripped off a 4.25 40-yard dash. He's explosive, quick, and very strong for his size. Most schools are recruiting him as a cornerback but Neal can play slot receiver as well.

Scholarship offers- Clemson, NC State, Maryland, North Carolina

Favorites- NC State, Florida State

Where does State stand- NC State is in great shape with Neal and co-lead with the Seminoles. Barring a Florida State offer, expect the Wolfpack to have a terrific shot at landing the Ashley High product.
