Thoughts on the defensive line:
"I think the biggest difference is that we got a little bit of depth now. We've got DeMario [Pressley]... we've got John Bedics and so we've got a little depth on the D-line. I just think we're playing better as a team. Everybody is going out there and playing hard everyday. I just think that we're clicking right now."
How much of an advantage is it to play next to Mario Williams?
"I think it's a big advantage. Mario's a great defensive end so I think with the both of us on the same side we can get a lot of stuff done. Mario was an all-american last year, and I enjoy playing beside him."
Who do you like among the two quarterbacks?
"I like the best one and right now they are both fighting for the spot. Good luck to whoever pulls it out."
What do you think about the new tailbacks?
"Those two tailbacks, Darrell Blackman and Bobby [Washington]... fast, one word. Bobby's got some moves on him, and they are great runners. I think we are going to have a lot of speed in the backfield this year. I think we'll be pretty good at running back."
Defensive End Mario Williams
"I think we came out and performed like we are suppose to. Going against the two's we're trying to make them better and get us to click. I'd say we did alright."
Have you noticed anything different from the defensive line?
"I think we've got more energy... more life. Hopefully we can carry it over to the games."
Do you think the first-team defensive line is coming together as a unit?
"Oh yea. We feel more comfortable now and we're down in the trenches together. We communicate when we're down there and we trust each other a lot right now."
Linebacker Pat Thomas
Thoughts on the scrimmage:
"I think I did alright. I didn't think I made as many plays as I should have, but it happens sometimes like that. The defense was real dominant."
Do you feel like the linebackers are coming together as a unit?
"Yes. Especially with the defensive line. When we're out there we just try to keep the d-line going. If they do their job and get a good push it makes our job that much easier."
What's the biggest difference that you see in the defensive line from last year to this year?
"Experience... that one year means so much. They are going through the spring and getting bigger, stronger, and mentally tougher. That one year is a big difference."
What do you think of the freshman running backs?
"Oh man, they are outstanding. Bobby Washington... you can't say enough about him. With the circumstances that happened, he just comes in and gets the job done... he never complains. Darrell Blackman's the same way. Those guys give us a run everyday and you have to be on your toes when they are playing."
Coach Amato mentioned that the running back position is open and it's now a competition. What do you think of that?
"It has to be that way. It's that way with every position. Everyone wants to get on the field and we're all fighting for positions. Even at linebacker... I come out here everyday knowing I don't have a sure spot, and I need to stay on top of things. I'm sure T.A., Bobby, and those guys feel the same way."
Coach Amato also mentioned Stephen Tulloch today. Talk with us about him.
"Stephen... he's an animal. He's so fast and is just a natural. He's one of those guys you look at him and say 'he plays linebacker.' Then when you watch him play you see that you don't even have to give him any responsibility and he will make all the plays. He's really coming along. As a sophomore he's taking big steps. He's starting in our dime defense, and I'm proud of him."
