Chargers-Rivers Agree on Six-Year Deal

The San Diego Chargers and representatives for rookie quarterback Philip Rivers agreed to terms on a six-year contract today.

Rivers, the Chargers' first-round selection and the fourth player selected overall in the draft, is expected to sign his contract and be on the field Tuesday morning for the team's 8:30 am practice.

"This is a fair deal for both Philip and the Chargers," said Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith. "We're just happy to have the negotiations behind us and a bright future ahead for Philip, the Chargers and all Charger fans. We're looking forward to getting him on the field and ready for the 2004 season."
