Pack Pride Recruiting Breakdown- Defensive Backs

Pack Pride breaks down the DB prospects for the class of 2005.

With the impending loss, due to graduation, of four huge contributors on the Wolfpack secondary, NC State will have to bring in several DB prospects in the class of 2005 to help offset the losses. Fortunately, the Pack has established itself as a player with several talented targets.

- NC State loses after 2004 season:

CB Lamont Reid (starter)

CB Dovonte Edwards (starter)

SS Andre Maddox (starter)

FS Troy Graham (starter)

-How many DB's the Pack may try to sign in 2005:

between 2 and 4

The Pack's best bets- NC State has offered and appears to have the best shot at the following:

CB Levin Neal (5-10, 180 pounds, 4.4 in the 40) Ashley HS, Wilmington, NC

Recruiting Notes...Suffered a broken leg a few weeks ago and may miss entire 2004 season. Had a terrific camp at State and reportedly impressed with speed, athleticism and quickness. Could get a look as WR but CB looks more likely. NC State has indicated they will stick with Neal regardless of injury. Neal also likes FSU, Florida and Georgia although none have yet to offer. Loyalty to Neal could pay off for the Pack but we don't think playing close to home is much of a factor here. If one of the aforementioned schools offer, the Pack will have a battle on it's hand...Recruiting Rating....3-star prospect

ATH/S Montario Hardesty (6-0, 196 pounds, 4.4 in the 40) New Bern (NC) HS

Recruiting Notes...Arguably State's most important in-state target. Could project at RB, WR or DB although Hardesty could be a natural to take over for Andre Maddox at SS. Possesses blistering speed and super football instincts. Florida State could emerge as a serious player but they apparently have not been overly involved. Other schools to keep an eye on are Virginia Tech, Nebraska, Tennessee, UNC and Clemson although we feel that the Pack may have the inside track. However, we feel State has to find a way to get him in for an official visit to stay on equal ground with out-of-state schools....Recruiting Rating....4-star prospect

CB Jordan Hemby (5-11, 175 pounds, 4.4 in the 40) Freedom HS, Morganton, NC

Recruiting Notes...Another player that performed well at NC State's camp. Showed good football skills and impressive speed and has earned offers from every school he camped with. Hemby has been difficult to track down so little is known about his favorites. NC State, UNC, Clemson and Virginia Tech are thought to be the main players....Recruiting Rating....Will be a 3-star prospect

CB Guesly Dervil (5-10, 180 pounds, 4.4 in the 40) Ed White HS, Jacksonville, Fla

Recruiting Notes...Talented prospect that favored NC State heavily early on but has since eased up on those claims and now says he's open among the Pack, Florida, Miami, LSU, Tennessee and Georgia although none of those schools have offered. Dervil reports an offer from NC State but we're not 100% sure about that. Dervil's brother is a LB for the Wolfpack....Recruiting Rating....3-star prospect

S Dorian Munroe (6-1, 185 pounds, 4.5 in the 40) Coral Reef HS, Miami, Fla

Recruiting Notes...Munroe simply seems to fit the mold of athlete that State seems to snatch from S Florida every year. Has several friends already in Raleigh and especially RB Bobby Washington. Georgia may be the main competition here but Florida and Florida State are in the mix as well although neither has offered. It doesn't appear likely that Miami will offer. Munroe would be a solid get for State and will officially visit the Pack later in the year....Recruiting Rating....4-star prospect

The Pack is a serious contender- NC State has reportedly offered and looks solid to get an official visit but has serious competition from several teams.

CB Chris Chancellor (5-9, 155 pounds, 4.45 in the 40) Edison HS, Miami, Fla

Recruiting Notes...Although smallish, Chancellor has tremendous quickness and cover skills. Grew up a Florida State fan and he reports an offer from the Noles. If that offer is legit then FSU could be next to impossible to beat. One nugget in State's favor is that the Pack has reportedly offered Chancellor's brother as well although the two have not dwelled on going as a package deal. Other schools in the mix are Miami, Rutgers, Iowa and Oklahoma. Wouldn't be surprised to this one come down to State and FSU....Recruiting Rating....3-star prospect

S/ATH Demerick Chancellor (6-1, 185 pounds, 4.4 in the 40) Edison HS, Miami, Fla

Recruiting Notes...Been tough to get a handle on the Pack's real interest here but Chancellor has been reporting an NC State offer for a while. Currently favors Rutgers, Clemson, Texas, NC State and Syracuse. Will be interesting to see if State tries to bring both he and his brother in together on an official visit....Recruiting Rating....3-star prospect

CB/FS Jamie Robinson (6-1, 175 pounds, 4.45 in the 40) Northwestern HS, Rock Hill, SC

Recruiting Notes...Pack reportedly made offer during contact period and has emerged as a school to watch. Florida State may hold a slight advantage here but Clemson could be a force as well. Early playing time and proximity to home could play to the Pack's advantage but it remains to be seen exactly how much effort State will put into recruiting SC. They've yet to land a prospect from the Palmetto State under Coach Amato....Recruiting Rating....3-star prospect

The Pack's watching- NC State has not offered any of these prospects but they're good enough that they could earn an offer at some point.

S Van Eskridge (6-1, 185 pounds, 4.5 in the 40) Shelby (NC) HS

Recruiting Notes...Solid DB prospect who has 21 career interceptions. Very high on State and Pack could take a sizeable lead should they offer. Virginia Tech, South Carolina and Wake Forest in there as well. It appears USC may be the closest to offering. If they do, wouldn't be surprising to see Eskridge to jump on it....Recruiting Rating....2-star prospect

S/LB Michael Washington (6-3, 210 pounds, 4.6 in the 40) Allendale-Fairfax (SC) HS

Recruiting Notes...May end up as a LB in college but for now, projects as a SS. South Carolina may hold a slight leaf with NC State, Georgia and Clemson strong as well....Recruiting Rating....2-star prospect

S Antonio Wardlow (6-1, 200 pounds, 4.55 in the 40) Parkland HS, Winston-Salem, NC

Recruiting Notes...Camped at State but didn't perform well enough to come away with an offer. Wardlow is another kid that could emerge as a strong State lean with a Pack offer but it's wait and see mode for now. Tennessee, Virginia Tech and USC look particularly strong here....Recruiting Rating....3-star prospect

S Quinton Andrews (5-11, 190 pounds, 4.6 in the 40) Monsignor Pace HS, Miami, Fla

Recruiting Notes...Not the fastest prospect in the database but has been a major part of one of Florida's most successful high school programs in recent years. State has not offered but Andrews is certainly of the caliber to eventually earn one. Florida and West Virginia have offered and are two teams at the top of Andrews' list....Recruiting Rating....3-star prospect

Names to keep in mind- The Pack isn't quite as strong here or the prospect is committed to another school, however, we'll be tracking them just in case.

CB Demetrice Morley (6-0, 180 pounds, 4.4 in the 40) Killian HS, Miami, Fla

Recruiting Notes...Committed to Florida...Recruiting Rating....4-star prospect

S Kenny Phillips (6-2, 195 pounds, 4.4 in the 40) Carol City HS, Miami, Fla

Recruiting Notes...Favoring Big 3 and LSU. Pack's not giving up though. Won't be shocking to see State get an official visit....Recruiting Rating....5-star prospect

S Gerrod Sinclair (6-0, 205 pounds, 4.6 in the 40) Mandarin HS, Jacksonville, Fla

Recruiting Notes...Pack has been off and on with Sinclair but there's potential for State to at least land an official visit. The Wolfpack has reportedly offered. Florida State, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee look strong....Recruiting Rating....3-star prospect

S Randy Phillips (6-0, 185 pounds, 4.45 in the 40) Glades Central HS, Belle Glade, Fla

Recruiting Notes....Committed to Miami....Recruiting Rating....3-star prospect
