    Welcome to the next generation of the Cardiac Pack. Call them the Cardi-"sack" Pack. The N.C. State defense sacked Virginia Tech quarterback Bryan Randall 10 times Saturday at Lane Stadium, playing a huge role in the Pack's 17-16 victory over the Hokies. Even so, it wasn't until Virginia Tech kicker Brandon Pace pushed a last-second, 43-yard field-goal attempt a foot outside the right upright that N.C. State could celebrate the dramatic win.     N.C. State defensive coordinator Reggie Herring leaned against a wall at Lane Stadium on Saturday afternoon, calmly munching on a piece of pizza. The Wolfpack had just edged Virginia Tech 17-16 as the Pack defense sank some big incisors into the Hokies' offense much of the game. And Herring, hired this year to bring an added dose of intensity and X-and-O effectiveness to the defense, said he hoped State had finally shed a reputation gained early in the season. Read More
