NC State Looking to Get Rich

Every year NC State head coach Chuck Amato and his assistants scour the country for some of the nation's more athletic and speedy football talent.

Few fit this mold better than one of Georgia's finest running backs, Richie Rich of Wheeler High. As a junior Rich stepped into the starting role when his team's starter suffered a season ending injury and was able to acquire an impressive 1,454 yards on the ground while reaching pay dirt 12 times.

However, the loss of many experienced offensive linemen has hindered Rich's senior season resulting in a 1-6 record, but that hasn't stopped many of the nation's most elite programs from showing Rich plenty of interest.

Though Rich's recruitment is "wide open" at this point he did admit that Oklahoma, NC State, UCLA, Auburn, Tennessee, Wake Forest, UNC, and Maryland have offered and are still in the running for his services. He added that even though Florida State and Miami have yet to offer they are still very much in the race.

When asked what stands out the most about some of his favorites Rich responded:

Oklahoma: "Their program has a lot of prestige, and they win national championships which would be great to be a part of."

NC State: "They run a spread offense and really use speed, their offense is similar to the Rams. They have a lot of young talent."

Auburn: "Auburn is a good running back school, guys like Stephen Davis and Bo Jackson went there, plus they've got Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown."

Florida State: "They also run a spread offense. Coach Bowden has the most wins of any coach in college football, and I hear they have nice facilities."

Miami: "They've put out some really good running backs like Edgerrin James, Clinton Portis, Willis McGahee, and Frank Gore. They also have a really great coaching staff."

When asked which coach has really made an impression on Rich he responded quickly with, "coach Noel Mazzone from NC State."

Rich has set up one official visit so far for October 23 to NC State when they battle the Miami Hurricanes. At this time he also intends to set up visits to Oklahoma, Auburn, Miami, and Florida State.
