Brenton Bryant from East Bladen High School in Elizabethtown, NC is certainly not a household recruiting name. However, the senior LB is out to change all that in 2004. At 6-3, 215 pounds and boasting a 4.6-second 40-yard dash, Bryant was one of the most physically impressive prospects in attendance at the Adidas Combine held at NC State earlier this year.
He's followed that performance up with a solid senior season- leading his team to a 6-1 record while amassing 56 tackles, two fumble recoveries and two sacks along the way.
To date, Bryant is hearing from numerous schools but is most interested in the in-state schools. He says UNC, East Carolina, Wake Forest and NC State are the schools showing the most interest currently. Bryant recently talked with Pack Pride about his top schools.
NC State- "I like the competition there. They're a good team and they keep getting better. They've got a good defense. Coach (Greg) Williams is recruiting me. He's called me a few times at home. He just checks on me to see how I'm doing and to make sure I send him some more tape of me."
UNC- "They've got a good balance between athletics and academics. Coach (Hal) Hunter is recruiting me for them and he's called me a couple of times."
ECU- "I like the campus and the location. They're struggling but I think they'll get better."
WF- "They're the same as UNC because they have good academics, but really, I like all the ACC schools because that's where the good competition is."
Bryant has already taken in one NC State contest this year and he hopes to make a return trip later in the year. He also hopes to unofficially visit East Carolina and UNC. Bryant projects as a full academic qualifier and hopes to major in Business. He has a brother who turned down a football scholarship from Duke to attend Hargrave.
