"Everything went good with the game last Friday," Toney Baker said. "I broke the North Carolina state rushing record. Now I can look past that and start focusing on other things."
Baker rushed for 284 yards on 28 carries, finishing the night with 9,286 yards for his career and breaking NC State running back T.A. McLendon's mark of 9,038 yards.
With the record behind him and the regular season coming to an end, Baker's confident that Ragsdale can do well in the playoffs.
"I think we'll do pretty good," he said. "I think we have a chance to win it all, to tell you the truth."
This past weekend he was also able to make his way to Raleigh for NC State's game against the Miami Hurricanes. It was the fourth time he watched the Wolfpack play this season and the second time at Carter-Finley Stadium.
"It was real good," Baker said. "I got another look at the facilities, and I got to talk to the coaches. I had a good time. I enjoyed myself."
"The only school I haven't been to is Virginia," he added. "They'll either be playing Maryland or Miami when I go up there in a couple of weeks."
Toney still claims no leader among his five finalists: Tennessee, Virginia, NC State, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech. Which programs are recruiting him the hardest?
"I'd have to say NC State or Virginia," Baker said. "It's probably about the same between them."
All the schools on Baker's list have a strong group of running backs already on campus, particularly NC State and North Carolina. Baker wants to play early, but he says that it will not be a deciding factor.
"To an extent, but we kind of know what's going on with all the running backs," he said. "So, that won't have an affect on my decision at all."
Don't expect Baker to take all five visits, as he may cut his list to three following his unofficial to Virginia.
"I'm thinking about narrowing it down and then taking my official visits," he said. "I'll probably do one visit in November, and the rest will probably be after the season."
