    The new arrival landed in Raleigh worried that his basketball game had grown stale in two seasons at Georgetown. He hungered for a challenge, and junior point guard Tony Bethel found it at N.C. State, matched up in practices against a brash, 6-foot-7 teammate with slashing, All-America skills. Five inches shorter and an uncountable number of decibels quieter than Julius Hodge, Bethel proved his worth to his new coaches and teammates in those daily battles. Bethel's performance out of the public eye during his NCAA-mandated year off after transferring from the Hoyas earned him a share of the leadership component on a veteran State team ranked 17th nationally headed into tonight's game against Campbell.
