Official Visit Weekend Preview

Dec 3 marks the first, big recruiting weekend for NC State. There's a talented cast of characters headed to Raleigh and we preview them all.

This weekend will mark the first big official visit weekend for NC State and the list is loaded with many of the nation's very best prospects. Pack Pride breaks down the Wolfpack's guests and where State stands with each.

CB Levin Neal (5-11, 180 pounds, 4.4/40) Ashley High School, Wilmington, NC

Prospect Ranking....3-star prospect...No. 23 player in NC....NCS Recruiter........Greg Williams

Notes...Neal is considering NC State, Virginia Tech and Maryland but lists the Pack as his leader. A verbal commitment this weekend is possible.

OL Chris Barney (6-5, 315 pounds, 5.2/40) Northwestern High School, Miami, Fla

Prospect Ranking....4-star prospect....Nation's No. 26 OL....No. 2 OL in Florida by Orlando Sentinel....NCS Recruiter........Doc Holliday

Notes...Appears to be a two-team race between Miami and NC State. A good visit here could go a long way towards erasing the Cane's lead. It is believed Miami is slow playing Barney and a late visit with the Canes seems to back this notion up. Chances of a verbal to NC State this weekend look slim.

LB Eric Houston (6-2, 220 pounds, 4.61 in the 40) Coral Reef High School, Miami, Fla

Prospect Ranking...2-star prospect...NCS Recruiter...Doc Holliday

Notes...Houston is believed to be leaning to NC State out of the schools that have offered. WVU is a possibility but he told us that was probably farther north than he wanted to go. Auburn is another option but we feel it unlikely they take Houston since they've already landed four linebackers. A weekend commit to NC State is possible although Houston could hold out to see if Miami offers.

LB Avery Vogt (6-1, 220 pounds, 4.6 seconds in the 40) Coral Reef High School, Miami, Fla

Prospect Ranking...2-star prospect...NCS Recruiter...Doc Holliday

Notes...Vogt is looking at primarily the same schools as Vogt. Unless the Pack makes an offer during the visit, we think odds are slim for a weekend commitment to NC State.

S Dorian Munroe (6-0, 180 pounds, 4.55/40) Coral Reef HS, Miami, Fl

Prospect Ranking....4-star prospect and the No. 29 player in Florida by Recruiter....Doc Holliday

Notes...Georgia is the main competition here although a recent Florida State offer has given us something to consider. Miami is right there as well but doesn't look like they'll offer until January at the latest. Munroe is a sleeper to commit, perhaps quietly. We'll know on Sunday.

RB Toney Baker (5-11, 215 pounds, 4.4/40) Ragsdale High School, Jamestown, NC

Prospect Ranking....4-star prospect....Nation's No. 3 RB by Tom Lemming....No. 1 player in NC....NCS Recruiter........Curt Cignetti

Notes...State seemed to go from all but out of the race to a team of contention in one big swoop. Virginia, Tennessee and UNC may also be in the race but we think UNC and UVA stand the best shot at an official visit. Odds of Baker announcing a commitment after his visit to NC State are low with this battle most likely raging right up until the US Army All-American Bowl.

DE Vladimir Richard (6-3, 255 pounds, 4.8 seconds in the 40) Piper HS, Sunrise, Fla

Prospect Ranking...4-star prospect...NCS Recruiter...Doc Holliday

Notes...Richard committed to Florida, backed off and then loved his trip to Tennessee. Pack has done a good job of staying on Richard and there is some potential there for State to steal him. We think the odds of a commit to NC State this weekend to be low.

LB/DE Gerald Williams (6-4, 225 pounds, 4.7/40) Boyd Anderson HS, Lauderdale Lakes, Fla

Prospect Ranking...4-star prospect...NCS Recruiter...Doc Holliday

Notes...Like Williams, State has stayed all over Williams and it's almost a certainty that where ever Richard goes, Williams will follow. Like Richard, we think the odds of a commit this weekend to NC State to be low.

RB Richie Rich (5-10, 180 pounds, 4.4/40) Wheeler High School, Marietta, Ga

Prospect Ranking....4-star prospect....Nation's No. 20 RB....NCS Recruiter........Noel Mazzone

Notes...Pack was on...then back on again with Rich. He has favored State at various points this year and it's possible he could commit to NC State this weekend although it's more likely he'll wait and take some other visits. We think it interesting that he and Baker will be at State the same weekend.

S Randy Phillips (6-0, 185 pounds, 4.5/40) Glades Central High School, Belle Glade, Fl

Prospect Ranking...3-star prospect...NCS Recruiter...Doc Holliday

Notes...Committed early on to Miami and it would take Phillips being blown away or the Canes backing off for State to have a realistic shot at landing him.

OL AJ Trump (6-4, 285 pounds, 4.9/40) Clearwater Catholic (FLA) High School

Prospect Ranking...4-star prospect...NCS Recruiter...Todd Stroud

Notes..Trump was all but signed, sealed and delivered to Notre Dame but the firing of Tyrone Willingham through Trump's plans into disarray. Florida State was another top choice but they have backed off considerably. Miami is in touch with Trump as well but he could fall into the same category as Barney. This is one of those battles where it will be interesting to see if coach Stroud's persistence will pay off. It very well could.

WR Louis Murphy (6-3, 180 pounds, 4.5/40) Lakewood High School, St Petersburg, Fl

Prospect Ranking...3-star prospect....NCS Recruiter...Todd Stroud

Notes...Committed to Florida early on and is very similar to Phillips. State has stayed in touch but Murphy is a rather strong commit to the Gators, so winning him over will be extremely tough.
