NC State already boasts two stars from Clearwater (Fla) Central Catholic High School in QB Jay Davis and LB Lerue Rumph. The Wolfpack coaches would like nothing more than to complete the trifecta as they hosted 4-star OL AJ Trump this weekend.
Long considered a heavy Notre Dame lean, Trump re-opened his recruiting options when Irish head coach Tyrone Willingham was recently fired. Pack DL coach Todd Stroud stayed on Trump throughout the recruiting process and that persistence payed off when State landed an official visit with the talented lineman this weekend.
"That trip was a lot of fun," Trump told Pack Pride. "It was a trip where I went in really interested in what State had to offer. You know, I was leaning to Notre Dame until coach Willingham got fired so now I'm basically wide open with no order to my schools.
"But when I was at State, I was made aware of how much they want me and I'll have the opportunity to play early. That was the big thing they were telling me. Of course Jay Davis and Lerue Rumph are already up there and they played at my school. But I had a great time. Luke Lathan was my host."
The battle for Trump's commitment won't be an easy one however as he has some heavy hitters on the docket over the coming weeks.
"Next week I'll be at Miami and then I've got Florida State and Florida in January," said Trump. "I'll have to wait to see who Notre Dame hires before I'll know what's going on with them."
Trump projects as a full academic qualifier.
