    Additional Notes

  • The Wolfpack will make what is becoming an annual return to the "Big Barn" on Saturday when NC State takes on Liberty.

The Wolfpack is 2-0 in its annual ‘Heritage Game' in Reynolds, defeating NC A&T 101-63 in 2002 and winning over Hartford, 78-49 last season. The Wolfpack posted an overall record of 589-177 (.769) in the 50-year h i s t o ry of Reynolds Coliseum, and added victories in the two seasons that it has played Heritage games there.

  • NC State is ranked 10th in this week's ESPN /U S A To d a y coaches poll - the first time the Wolfpack has been in the top 10 of any poll since he 1984-85 campaign, when Jim Valvano's squad was in the AP top 10 for two weeks (one week at No. 10, one week at No. 9) in December.

The Associated Press has the Pack at #12 in its latest ranking, the highest ranking in that poll since the 1987-88 season, when the Pack was ranked 11th for one week in March.

  • NC State's 6-0 start this season is the second- best during Herb Sendek's nineyear tenure. The Wolfpack started 7-0 in 1999-2000, the first year in the RBC Center and opened 5-0 in 2001-02 and 2002-03.

A win over Liberty would give NC State a 7-0 mark, which would tie as the fifth-best start for the Wo l f p a c k since 1970. It would also give Sendek two of the top five starts at NC S t a t e during that time frame.

  • After leading the nation and setting an ACC record with a .799 mark from the charity stripe last season, the Wolfpack has been frigid from the line in the first six games of 2004-05. The Pack ranks seventh in the league with a .661 mark.

NC State shot better than 65% from the stripe in the last 24 games of last season and above 75% in 22 of those contests. This season, the squad has gone over 65% twice in six games and over 75% just once. The team has shot less than 60% from the stripe thre e times.

Julius Hodge, who ranked fourth in the league last season with an .828 mark on free throws, has shot an uncharacteristic .590 in the early season.

  • NC State is second in the ACC in total assists with 115 and third in assists per game with 19.17. The Wolfpack leads the league in assist-to-turnover ratio with a 1.60 mark, averaging just 12 TOs per game.

NC State has dished out an assist on 63% of its made baskets this season (115 of 183).

The Wolfpack also boasts two of the ACC's top six players in terms of assist-to-turnover ratio this week. Julius Hodge is third, with 34 assists to just 11 turnovers for a 3.09 assistto- turnover ratio. Tony Bethel ranks sixth in the league, dishing out 24 assists to just nine TOs for a 2.67 mark.
