Sometimes all it takes is an impressive senior tape to pique the interest of a college coaching staff. That appears to be the case with DT Alan-Michael Cash of Varina High School in Richmond, Va. as he recently received a scholarship offer from NC State.
At 6-1, 285 pounds, Cash ran a 5.02-second 40-yard dash and an even more impressive 4.26-second 20-yard shuttle at the Virginia Nike Camp held earlier this year.
He followed that up with a stellar senior season, finishing off the year with 65 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and six sacks. For his efforts, Cash was accorded all-district and all-state honors.
The senior lineman seemingly put an end to his recruiting shortly after Christmas when he made a verbal commitment to Michigan State. However, NC State had been talking to Cash prior to his commitment to the Spartans about making an official visit to Raleigh and have since solidified plans for him to be at State on Jan 14.
"I'm coming down on a visit to NC State next weekend," said Cash. "I committed to Michigan State but I want to go down there and see what they've got and see if it changes my mind.
"I hadn't been hearing much from NC State before but coach (Manny) Diaz got in touch with me a few weeks ago and State offered me. He was telling me that I'm really going to like it when I come down there and I'll want to commit to them. I'm pretty sure I'll know what I want to do after that visit."
While Michigan State is telling Cash he'll have the opportunity to play DT or DE for the Spartans, the Pack likes him exclusively at DT.
