North Carolina OL Commits to the Pack

NC State landed another OL commit this weekend. Read on for the latest prospect to verbal to the Pack.

It was clear from the start of the 2004-05 recruiting season that the offensive line would be a major point of emphasis for NC State. OL Doug Palmer from Byrd High School in Fayetteville, NC was a new name that surfaced only recently but apparently, he was not an unknown to the NC State coaching staff.

At 6-3, 291 pounds, Palmer's best 40-yard dash speed is 5.0-seconds and he boasts a 405-pound bench press. He was a standout at Byrd along the offensive line and came away with all-conference honors and a selection to the Shrine Bowl where he impressed throughout the week of workouts.

The Wolfpack was apparently impressed enough that they offered a scholarship and an official visit to Raleigh this weekend and the senior standout came away impressed. He also made the decision to run with the Pack in 2005.

"Yeah, I committed to State this weekend," said Palmer. "The visit was really nice. Coach Cignetti is the guy that was recruiting me and they just showed us the facilities and stuff. The reason I committed to State was because I could tell the players are hungry to win a national championship and that's the way I feel too.

"I was also looking at UNC but I'm committed to State now."
