Locker Room Report: Wolfpack Players

Julius Hodge and Cedric Simmons met the media following the Virginia loss and here's a sampler of what they had to say.

Julius Hodge

In the first half you could only get off two shots. Can that offense be effective for this team if you're only allowed to take two shots?
Our offense is based on everybody getting an equal opportunity to get their chance, and everybody to get an equal amount of shots. I'm gonna keep on playing, and make the best of the situation because I'm a hard worker and I'm going to continue to work hard, because that's what I do. And my teammates are going to follow.

Do you think you guys have better players?
I think we have better players. I know a couple of guys, I looked in their eyes, and they had that fight. Our guys were ready to go. I just wanted to win. And when I caught it they started double-teaming, every time I was about to go in the post or just go to the basket, I was kicking out, and I'm letting the game come to me and I'm letting the game come to me, and I didn't care if I scored a bucket, I was just trying to win the game. I was trying to get guys the ball in the right position. I don't know what else... I just don't know.

How do you guys get ready for Wake after a game like this?
Just go back to work. Virginia wanted it, our guys really wanted it. The thing that gets you is the bad taste in your mouth. You have to work it out tonight. You have to go into the gym, you have to work out tonight. We've got to get better at this now, we have to come back, we have to get better and we have to work. Everybody has to work individually, so the greater, the whole, the team can win. We just have to continue to work. Everyone wants it, as bad as coach Sendek, and we're gonna beat Wake. If everybody don't, it doesn't matter.

Do you plan to go to the gym tonight?
I have to, that's all I can do. Just work hard, I have to continue to work hard, I have to continue to get better, that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to continue to stay positive, and I just want to win.

Is this a devastating loss?
I don't know which one is more devastating or disappointing, getting beaten by 25 or beaten by two points by a team that we should have beaten. I don't know which loss is worse.

How do you balance being assertive and not stepping out of the bounds of the offense?
It's very different, our offense. It's the hand that I was dealt, and I'm going to continue to work hard. In previous years, I would be able to get to that hole, and get a little easier deny to the top, and I have to take all my shots, and I really depend on my teammates to make plays and hit shots. Tonight wasn't going to be a game where I was going to score 10 points, it was going to be where I was a playmaker and got guys involved, and we didn't make our open shots at the end. We're making our open shots when we win. We were missing, obviously, and this is what happens.

Cedric Simmons

Where do you think you are, in your game?
I think I'm playing good, but I think I can play a whole lot better.

What does it feel like to get your chance and go out there?
It feels like all my hard work has paid off. But I want to reach my goals, and you can't stop here, you have to keep going.

What do you think you guys will have to do to get things back on track?
We just have to come out and compete. We're not doing it consistently. We've just got to man up, and put our foot down.

When did you find out you'd be starting tonight?
Yesterday, but I still didn't think I'd start, but that I was just on the first team.[laughs]

How frustrating was this loss? It's real frustrating. Anytime you lose it is. It just hurts so bad this time. I feel like every time we came back, or went up a couple, we, we should have stayed with it.
