The Big 33 Football Classic, which pits high school football stars from Pennsylvania and Ohio against each other, will be held Saturday, July 23rd at 7:30 P.M. in Hershey, PA at Hersheypark Stadium.
A Big 33 selection is a prestigious honor for Pennsylvania and Ohio football players, as the game has a rich history stretching back nearly fifty years. Also, it has a unique connection with the NFL, as all 39 Super Bowl games have included at least one player who performed in the annual Big 33 Classic. This year the New England Patriots had two Big 33 alumni on its roster in Ty Law (Aliquippa HS) and Justin Kurpeikis (Central Catholic HS).
Newell, who signed with NC State and will play wide receiver for the Wolfpack, is set to play defensive end in the Football Classic. The 6'4 225-pound Bethlehem Catholic star inked with the Wolfpack over offers from Virginia, Tennessee, Florida State, Maryland, and Boston College among others.
The game will likely be televised on FoxSportsNet in the triangle, although that has not yet been confirmed.
