Note, this is only a partial list since my list will continue to grow throughout the spring and summer as I attend more camps and combines and get a chance to watch more of the top players.
Beginning with quarterbacks, here's a closer look at five to watch heading into the spring. While this year's group will be better than that of last year, it won't be quite as strong as the group from two years ago.
Herb Bynes, 6-3, 215, Boyd Anderson -- An impressive physical specimen, Bynes lit up opposing defenses as a sophomore and although he was impressive at times he didn't put up big numbers as a junior. He has quick feet, a strong arm, and a prototypical build to be a successful player at the college level.
Cody Clinton, 6-2, 205, Boca Raton -- Also a talented baseball player, Clinton really turned it on as a junior -- throwing for over 1,200 yards and 16 touchdowns with just five interceptions. He doesn't have a big time arm but he's smart, he's accurate, and he doesn't make many mistakes on the field.
Walter Howard, 6-5, 195, Citrus -- Still very raw because of a lack of playing experience, Howard grew up a basketball player, a sport in which he still excels. He lit up opposing defenses in football last year, throwing for over 1,000 yards and running for over 500. He's a tall, athletic, strong kid whose best days are way ahead of him.
Thaddeus Lewis, 6-2, 185, Hialeah-Miami Lakes -- With cat-like quickness, Lewis brings a tremendous amount of athletic ability to the position. However, it doesn't end there. He knows how to torch opposing defenses with his arm or his legs. He tore up opposing Dade County defenses last season while being named to the Class 6A All-State 2nd Team.
Tim Tebow, 6-3, 215, St. Augustine Nease -- The state's top quarterback prospect heading into the spring, Tebow put up video game-like numbers as a junior. He has everything you look for in a QB prospect -- size, arm strength, accuracy, instincts, leadership, work ethic, etc. He's real close to being the total package. He'll be one of the most heavily recruited quarterbacks in the entire country this coming season.
