McRoberts, Green Shine In Burger Game

It was a lot more competitive than most all-star games, that's for sure. The 2005 McDonald's contest concluded with the East scoring a 115-110 win over the boys from the West.

Greg Paulus stepped up to the line and canned his free throws (7-for-8 down the stretch) and the East staved off a second half West comeback to capture the 115-110 win in the annual McDonald's All-American Game.

Paulus finished with 13 points and 9 assists as future Duke teammate Josh McRoberts scored 17 points on a night when he shot 7-for-8 from the field to go with 12 rebounds. For his efforts, McRoberts was named the game's MVP.

"I never even thought about [the MVP] during the game," McRoberts told the Associated Press. "I was just trying to go out there and play hard." Mission accomplished for the runner-up in the Slam Dunk Contest.

While Paulus was key down the stretch, future OSU Cowboy Gerald Green had the hot hand early. Green, the game's leading scorer, finished with 24 points. Green captured the Slam Dunk Contest title Monday evening so his venture to South Bend was deemed a successful one.

The West was led by the top player from the state of Alaska, guard Mario Chalmers. The Jayhawk-to-be went off for 20 points and his future teammate Julian Wright chipped in with 14. C.J. Miles, a Texas signee, dropped 13 of his own.

Going into the game, one of the big storylines was the potential head-to-head matchup of Louis Williams and Monta Ellis, arguably the top two guards in the nation. Well, Williams had 14 points and Ellis contributed a few quick slashes late in the game but this story never developed as the game unfolded.
