"Coach Chuck Amato and my recruiting coach, Greg Williams, was here today. They said that they were offering me and that the offer was in the mail."
Brown, a 6'2, 250-pound defensive end prospect, already has a written offer from Maryland and was happy to hear that NC State was offering.
"I was actually asking my coach about them tonight," Brown said. "Just trying to find out what he thought about them. He said it's a good in-state school and that if I wanted to go there it would be a good choice.
"The thing I like about them is their defense is awesome. They have a lot of young guys who get to play early, and I like that. Like Demario Pressley, he came in last year and played a lot."
Some colleges feel Brown is a tweener at the next level and may be too small to play along the defensive line. However, he said NC State didn't feel that way.
"I don't know what's up with Virginia," Brown said. "The coach sounded like they were going to offer and then he started talking about how they wanted 6'4 or 6'5 defensive ends.
"[NC] State didn't mention me playing anywhere else but defensive line. He said the reason their defense has been so good is because it all starts with having a strong defensive line and they want players who can make plays there."
Brown, who claims to not have a leader or timeframe set, said distance will not play a role in his decision.
I've always said I'll either stay real close to home or go far away," Brown said. "It just depends on what school I think is right for me.
"I won't make an early decision. What if I pick NC State and then something goes wrong with it later in the year and all the other schools have backed off? I will probably decide sometime near the end."
