    Update - April 7, 2002: (Philip Pasternak * TSW)
I contacted Dom today to get a quick update and find out how his recent visit to Raleigh went. When asked about the visit, Dom showed some definite excitement in his voice when he replied, "I loved it! It was an excellent visit. Everything was just great. I liked the players, the coaches, and I loved the campus. The food was great. Really, I had alot of fun." Dom told me he had a chance to meet with all the Wolfpack players and spent quite a bit time with Julius Hodge and Josh Powell. He even went to class with Julius for a day. "All the players I met were really cool. They all really made me feel welcome."

I asked him how he felt about the coaches. "I love the coaching staff. They are really smart and they have a lot of contact with the guys there. They were really great to be around."

As for when to expect a decision, Dom says, "I'm just going to have to weigh all my options. That's what I'm doing right now." He does say, however, to expect a decision from him soon.

    Update - April 2, 2002: (TSW Staff)
Dom Mejia (pronounced Mehia) is fast approaching the National Letter of Intent late signing date for Division I basketball (April 10 - May 15). Many schools have sought the services of the combo guard out of New Jersey. Rutgers, Seton Hall, Connecticut, NC State, Illinois, St. Joe's, Siena, Penn State and Marquette have all made their run. New FSU Head Coach Leonard Hamilton is making a move as well and has contacted his AAU coach. With the dead period for contact between college coaches and players over on April 3, look for the Seminoles to make a late and hard push for Mejia.

TSW talked to Dom about where the last eight months of recruiting have lead him. "I have two favorites at this time, Rutgers and NC State. My AAU coach told me that FSU is interested, but they have yet to call."

We asked him what it was about these two schools (NC State and Rutgers) that set them apart from the rest. Mejia said this about the Scarlet Knights, "Coach Waters from Rutgers is a great coach and I get along with him real well. Academics are also important and Rutgers has a lot to offer. They also are close to home." Dominic has already visited Rutgers and, although it is not scheduled, plans to return again sometime before the late signing period is over (May 15).

Dom is scheduled for an official visit to NC State on April 4th - 6th. "When I go there I want to get a feel for the coaching staff, the campus and team. They have offered me and I want to see what it is like before I make any commitment." Dom went on to say, "They play in the ACC which is a great conference. They also have good academics at NC State."

Mejia's Eastern High School (ranked #6) finished the year 23-4 winning their conference championship and advancing to the South Jersey Group 4 finals.

    Scouting Report - February 26, 2002:
Dom originally committed to Rutgers last Fall but never signed a letter of intent. Insiders has him listed as a 4 Star recruit. His favorites are Connecticut, Rutgers and Seton Hall.

NC State coaches Phelps and Harris have seen him play. Do not be surprised if Coach Sendek makes a trek up north to check on Mejia as well.

Dom will probably see playing time at both the PG and SG positions wherever he chooses to go to college. His main asset is his perimeter jumper where he's good to 3-point range. He also is known for his strong leadership skills.
