The 5-10, 180 pound prospect hopes an impressive showing at the recent Nike combine will lead to an increase in offers over the next few weeks. "I hope after the Nike combine that I will get more recognition. I ran a 4.47 at the Nike combine. I also had a 4.0 shuttle and a 32 inch vertical," Whitley said in a recent interview.
"North Carolina is my only firm offer at this point. They are the only ones to give me a written offer. The rest are telling me one day they are going to offer and the next day they don't."
Which teams are showing the most interest right now? "Ohio State, Clemson, Michigan, Maryland, State, Tennessee and Virginia," says the North Carolina native.
When asked if he has any favorites, Whitley responded, "I really don't have any yet. It's starting to heat up, but I'm not ready to name any favorites."
Whitley's summer camp plans are not clear at this time. "I don't know yet. We have so much to do here for practice this summer. I'm not sure where I will go," said Whitley.
A commitment will likely not come until after his senior season. "I want to wait until next year. It depends how the recruiting process goes. I will probably wait until around November," added Whitley.
As a junior, Whitley ran for 2,666 yards and 33 touchdowns on just 290 carries.
We will continue to keep you updated on this outstanding running back from North Carolina, right up through signing day 2006.
