"I had a special time," Johnson told Pack Pride after finishing with 13 points, eight assists, and six boards against the Pittsburgh JOTS. "I've heard about their facilities, but I didn't realize they were that special or amazing.
"It was my first time actually getting to know the rest of the staff outside of coach Sendek and coach Phelps. It's just a bunch of great guys at NC State."
Johnson toured the RBC Center and had a chance to also check out the new practice facility being constructed at the Weisiger-Brown building.
"They are the best I've seen," he said. "I've heard they are some of the best in the country. They are impressive."
At this point, Johnson mentioned possibly taking official visits to NC State, Illinois, Oklahoma, and Wake Forest but it's obvious who the current leader is in his recruitment.
"NC State, no question," he said. "It's just special. The place they live, the way they seem. It's just a great place to be.
"My mom said she really likes it too. She has some family and friends around here so she's comfortable with it."
Johnson mentioned making a decision before next season, but he did leave the door open for making an early verbal commitment, possibly in the next few weeks.
"I definitely want to make a decision before next high school season," Johnson said. "But, after talking with coach Sendek a little bit more maybe it might happen earlier, so you never know.
"They want me to take an official visit, but I actually would have to wait until school is back in session or I can take one next week. I might do that."
