Pack Lands Top 100 Prospect

The N.C. State Wolfpack added a Top 100 guard Monday afternoon. Larry Davis, one of the finest players in New York City, continued a trend of Big Apple standouts electing to head to Raleigh.

The Big Apple has been friendly to North Carolina State in recent years. The Wolfpack mined Julius Hodge of St. Raymond's and three years later followed up with Gavin Grant out of the same program.

Now, Herb Sendek ventured into NYC again, this time plucking another guard from one of the city's perennial powerhouse teams. Larry Davis, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard out of Christ The King, committed to the Pack on Monday after visiting the school last weekend.

"It was a great atmosphere down there in North Carolina and I loved it after the first day," Davis said. "I knew that I wanted to be there and spend my four college years there. The weather is beautiful, I love the coaching staff and they want me to be there. I have legitimate chance of playing on the next level after playing at N.C. State."

Like we said, the Pack used some area ties to connect with Davis,'s No. 73 prospect in the country. "When I came down there," Davis said, "I met Gavin Grant and he plays for N.C. State. He used to be in my league and we hit it off right away. He told me a lot of good things about N.C. State and it's a good place to be. It must be because he loved it down there."

Davis selected the Pack over Pittsburgh and Villanova, two programs he had set official visits with. In leading Christ The King to a 24-3 record, Davis averaged 14 points as a junior. He was the lone member of the Class of 2006 to be named all-city in New York.

Davis thinks N.C. State's style fits him perfectly. "Their offense is motion and they open the court for guards and forwards. They have five guys on the court who can make other guys better. I think I can fit in with that style of play."

Apparently so does the Pack because it moved quickly to lock him down during his official visit. N.C. State now has two commitments in 2006. Dan Werner, a forward out of New Jersey, committed in May.
