"I'm getting a lot of interest from Michigan State and NC State," Brown said. "I like them both, I think they are both good programs."
At 6-foot-4, 245 pounds, Brown reports a 4.54 forty yard dash time. "I'm a big guy that has speed," Brown said. "I am very athletic."
Brown does see himself pulling the trigger early if the right opportunity comes along, but doesn't think his brother's decision will affect his.
"We might end up at the same school," Brown said. "We're just gonna have to see what happens, but it's still a possibility. If the right opportunity comes along then we're gonna have to take it, regardless."
Brown ultimately desires playing time more than anything else. "I want a chance to play early. I'm gonna see how the program is and the academics, but I am gonna be looking at a place I can get on the field."
Nicknamed 'Dr. Doom' on the football field for his aggressive attitude once the whistle blows, Chesapeake (Va.) Hickory High School star Donnell Brown is definitely one to watch this summer.
"I'm an old-school type player," Brown said. "I'm just a hard nose, intense linebacker who loves to run and hit people."
Virginia Tech is taking a liking to Donnell and his brother, Ronnell and have put themselves towards the front for both. However, others have come into the picture of late, including several new ACC schools.
"Well, besides Virginia Tech," Brown said, "Virginia, UNC, NC State, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Syracuse are the ones showing the most interest."
Asked if he had any leaders at this time, despite not having a scholarship offer to date, Brown said: "I like Virginia Tech a lot, as much as I like the others though. I like North Carolina, NC State alot. I'm all open right now, though, to all schools until I get some offers."
Brown is being recruited to play linebacker at the next level. He currently is around 6-foot-1 and 245 pounds. Although he denies that his brother's recruitment will not have anything to do with his, it is a question he gets often asked.
"It's still a possibility," Brown explained about his playing with his twin brother. "We understand though, that we are different players and different colleges might like him for a certain position and not me, or vice versa."
Brown could decide soon. "If it's the right school then I'm open to committing early."
