Wolfpack In The Mix For Chaney?

Linebacker Jamar Chaney is exploring his options after problems with admission into Georgia, the school he inked with in February.

Could Georgia still be an option, despite the situation they've currently put him in? "Of course, I'd consider them if it became an option," he said. "Georgia is my No. 1, school, but whatever school I like that gives me the first offer, that's what I've got to take because I don't know what's going on."

Georgia's admissions office denied Chaney's eligibility two weeks ago due to an SAT score that was flagged by The Educational Testing Service. That flag would have to be removed for Chaney to have a chance to enroll at UGA, but some people in the Bulldogs' athletic department think Chaney still has a shot, although a slim one, of being a Bulldog.

Georgia coach Mark Richt could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

Jamar Chaney would not discuss any specific conversations he has had with Georgia coaches but said, "all the coaches who are calling me are telling me not to give up hope."

While he initially focused on the University of Florida after being denied by Georgia, he now thinks Florida State, Alabama, North Carolina State and Rutgers all are options, he said.

"There's a lot of schools trying to get involved," he said.

Jim O'Neal, Chaney's coach at St. Lucie West Centennial High School in Ft. Pierce, is handling all the discussions with schools about Chaney, the player said. However, O'Neal declined to discuss any specifics about Chaney's situation.

"We've just got to keep everybody out of this right now and let the coaches work everything out," he said.

The process clearly is beginning to take its toll on Chaney, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound 18-year old who was a Palm Beach Post All-Star in his junior and senior seasons.

"I really don't know anything," he said. "It is wearing me out because I don't know. I'm listening just like everybody else, trying to figure out what's going on."
