PK/P Nathan Franklin from Hoggard High School in Wilmington, NC is a player that has become increasingly familiar to Wolfpack fans over the last several weeks, and for good reason. He's likely the top kicker in-state this year and his is a position that has become critical for NC State since the departure of Tyler Lewis. Franklin recently camped at State and received an offer from the Pack shortly thereafter.
"I thought the camp went well," said Franklin. "We went over to Cardinal-Gibbons to kick and then came back over to the practice fields to work on punting. I was there for a day and a half and I thought I did pretty well."
Apparently Franklin impressed the Wolfpack coaches enough that he's become a priority to fill their kicking spot for 2005.
"They told me that they wanted me real bad and, if I wanted, they would send me an offer in writing. I just wanted to make sure that they were serious about me so when I got home, I called them back and they said I had a scholarship offer on the table."
So far, Franklin has camped at Tennessee and NC State and has one camp left at Georgia in July. He had hoped to camp at Southern Cal but has since decided against the trip. The rising senior updated on his top schools and where the Pack stands after becoming the first school to make an offer.
"Right now my favorites would be NC State, Tennessee, Georgia and Southern Cal," he said. "State and Tennessee would be my top two. With State, I just really like all the coaches and they really treated me well. Playing time is definitely a factor there and, really, I just liked everything about it."
Franklin told Pack Pride that he likely will make a decision within the next few weeks and almost certainly during the next month.
