Quarterback Recruiting Board
Pack Pride breaks down the known prospects on NC State's QB recruiting board. As always, this list is compiled by the staff at Pack Pride and is in no way connected with any actual recruiting list of the NC State coaching staff.
Tim Tebow (6-3, 225 pounds, 4.6-seconds in the 40) Nease High School, St Augustine, Fla
Stats- rushed for better than 1,200 yards and 12 touchdowns while piling up 4,300 yards passing and 46 TD's through the air.
Offers- Basically every major school in the nation
NC State Visit- made a two day unofficial trip to State in May
Schools under consideration- Tebow has not announced any list of favorites but the teams in serious contention are believed to be Florida, Florida State, Alabama, Michigan, Miami, Clemson and NC State.
Inside Track- Many feel Florida to be the team to beat but Tebow has made a whirlwind tour of schools during the spring and early summer. Most would realistically expect NC State to be a huge longshot but the lure of early playing time could be a big selling point for the Pack.
Pat Devlin (6-4, 200 pounds, 4.7-seconds in the 40) Downington West (Pa) High School
Stats- Completed 64% of his throws and threw for 2,200 yards and 21 touchdowns as a junior
Offers- two dozen including NC State, Penn State, Michigan, Miami, Pittsburgh, Virginia and Iowa
NC State Visit- no visit plans set to NC State
Schools under consideration- Although he hasn't named a top five per se, Miami, Michigan, Virginia, NC State and Pittsburgh appear to be the main contenders.
Inside Track- Has been hard to get a read on Devlin- some think Miami may be the team to beat while others have hinted that Virginia may be in the driver's seat. One thing is for certain, if Devlin sticks to his timetable of deciding before the beginning of the 2005 season, State will have to figure out a way to get him on campus.
Justin Burke (6-2, 185 pounds, 4.7-seconds in the 40) Lexington (Ky) Catholic High School
Stats- passed for 2,200 yards and 24 TD's as a junior while completing 57% of his passes.
Offers- has around a dozen offers including NC State, Louisville, Kentucky, Tennessee, Michigan State and Purdue.
NC State Visit- was scheduled to visit NC State in June
Schools under consideration- Burke has yet to narrow his list but Louisville, Kentucky, Tennessee, NC State and Purdue look to be the main players.
Inside Track- Probably the in-state schools. Some feel the biggest challenge will be to get Burke out of the state of Kentucky. A visit to NC State over the summer could definitely help the Pack's chances and the Wolfpack offense could be a major selling point.
Will Fidler (6-4, 195 pounds, 4.8-seconds in the 40) Henderson County (Ky) High School
Stats- threw for better than 4,000 yards and 45 touchdowns as a junior
Offers- Kentucky and Western Michigan
NC State Visit- scheduled to visit State this summer
Schools under consideration- Kentucky, Alabama, Vanderbilt, Purdue, NC State, Maryland among others
Inside Track- Most likely Kentucky as things stand now. However, should the Pack decide to offer they could emerge as a serious player down the road. Of the un-offered prospects, Fidler may be next in line for an offer at some point.
Ross Applegate (6-5, 185 pounds, 4.8-seconds in the 40) Walton High School, Marietta, Ga
Stats- passed for close to 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns in 2004
NC State Visit- scheduled to camp at NC State
Schools under consideration- NC State, Maryland, Georgia, Virginia and South Carolina among others
Inside Track- Hard to say as Applegate has yet to earn an offer. Schools will likely want to see how Applegate responds as a senior in an offense more pass-oriented.
Eddie McGee (6-5, 200 pounds, 4.7-seconds in the 40) HD Woodson High School, Washington, DC
Stats- completed 64% of his passes for 1,528 yards and six touchdowns.
NC State Visit- has already visited once and planned to camp at State this summer
Schools under consideration- NC State, Miami, Marshall, Maryland, Virginia
Inside Track- NC State probably holds the inside track should they decide to offer.
Vaughn Charlton (6-5, 210 pounds, 4.82-seconds in the 40) Avon Grove High School, West Grove, Pa
Stats- threw for 985 yards and nine touchdowns in 2004
NC State Visit- has already visited State once and planned to camp there this summer
Schools under consideration- NC State, UNC, Michigan State, Rutgers and Virginia among others
Inside Track- Charlton really had positive things to say about NC State but the team that offers first may earn the inside track.
Zach MacDowall (6-3, 200 pounds, 4.8-seconds in the 40) Harrison High School, Kennesaw, Ga
Stats- completed 164 of 255 passes for 2,317 yards and 25 TD's as a junior
Offers- Baylor, Western Michigan, Ball State and Kent State
NC State Visit- planned to camp at State this summer
Schools under consideration- UNC, NC State, Wake Forest, South Carolina, Baylor, Ole Miss
Inside Track- Hard to say because MacDowall has shied away from naming favorites. Should the Pack decide to offer then they could become a big player headed into the 2005 season.
