Ballard Keeping Options Open

Miami (FL) Norland Safety Shannon Ballard camped last week at Rutgers and returns home with a new leader.

"I just came from the Rutgers camp," Shannon Ballard told Pack Pride. "It was good. It was a different experience, but it was good."

"I came away from that camp liking Rutgers a lot more. I guess they have an edge right now because I've been up there, and I want to learn more about the school."

Ballard, a 6-foot-0, 175-pound safety prospect led a Norland defense that was one of the best in Florida last year. He finished the season with 76 tackles, four fumble recoveries, and one interception.

This year he expects another strong defensive effort.

"We're going to be good because of our defense. I think we can be just as good as last year."

With offers from Rutgers and Akron, Ballard remains wide open and expects to pick up even more offers in the near future. He's currently listing Rutgers, Akron, NC State, North Carolina, Auburn, and Florida. He hopes to take official visits to each of these schools before making a decision.

One team that really caught his attention was the NC State Wolfpack.

"Last year I watched them play a couple of games, and I like how they run their defense," Ballard said. "Their defense is not too different from ours because they really get after you and that's what I try to do.

"They have been sending a lot of letters so I want to learn more about them."

Don't expect an early decision from Ballard, as he wants to decide after his senior season.

"I'll wait because I want to see who all offers me first and take my trips," he said.
