Georgia QB picks up first offer

Ross Applegate earned his first two offers this summer with both coming from ACC schools. We've got the latest on his recruiting and where the Pack stands.

Pack Pride first introduced QB Ross Applegate from Walton High School in Marietta, Ga a couple of months ago and the rising senior has since embarked on an extensive summer camp tour. Along the way he's hit schools like NC State, Boston College, Maryland, Virginia and South Carolina.

The 6-5, 185 pound signal caller threw for around 1,000 yards last season in a run-based offense but performed well enough at camps this summer to come away with one solid offer and a verbal offer from two ACC schools.

"Boston College made me an offer," said Applegate. "(That's) the only offer they have extended to date and I'm exceptionally impressed with what they have to offer. My dad and I are going up to Boston this Friday (July 15) to talk further with the coaches and get a better feel for the city.

"Maryland has extended a verbal offer but they've offered at least six additional recruits so I don't consider that as legitimate as the offer from Boston College."

The Pack looked like a potential front-runner for Applegate but State is still looking hard at QB's Justin Burke from Kentucky and Tim Tebow from Florida and it appears they're going to wait and see what those two do before pulling the trigger on any additional offers to any QB's.

"I had a great day camp visit with NC State," said Applegate. "In talking with coach Trestman at State, I was told they've extended offers to two QB's and were going to wait to see what those two were going to do."

The offer by Boston College and NC State's reluctance to offer has resulted in a shift, somewhat, of where Applegate appears to be leaning currently.

"At the moment, Boston College is right up there for me and Virginia too," he said. NC State would be there, but I'm not sure where they are at this point and, to be honest, not sure that it would be the best situation to be a 'second choice'. Boston College lists me as their first a lot is to be said for that."
