At the moment the versatile athlete has four schools at the top of his list and one program appears to have a slight edge.
"South Carolina, North Carolina, NC State, and Virginia are the main ones," Williams said. "I wouldn't say I have a favorite, but if I had to choose today it would be North Carolina.
"They had an alright season last year, and they are not satisfied with that. The possibility of going and playing early there and the closeness to home sticks out. Everything's just fitting together right now with them."
Another factor that could favor UNC is a connection he now has to the program.
"I have family around UNC, my uncle lives close to there," Williams said. "He knows [linebackers] coach Thigpen real well."
Rumors have persisted the past couple of months that Williams could decide at anytime. Is that still the case?
"I'm just going to see how it plays out," he said. "I'm just in the chill mode about everything about now."
Williams says that he is now starting to concentrate on his upcoming season at White Oak High School, and he believes it will be a successful year.
"I feel good," Williams said. "I'm really excited about the season. We're changing our offense to more of a timing package so that is a good thing for me at wide receiver."
Williams, a four-star prospect and the ninth-ranked safety in the country according to Scout.com, also gave his opinion on the upcoming college football season. He believes the three ACC programs on his list will have good seasons while stating the lone SEC school could struggle.
"I think South Carolina struggles a little this year, and Virginia will be better this year," Williams said. "State is going to really be better next year, if they get the quarterback situation worked out. Even if they don't I think they will win at least two more games than they did last year. They'll go to a bowl game.
"UNC, I think they are going to go to a bowl game this year, losing Durant is hard, but I think Baker is going to be good for them. I think they will be good too."
