1. OL Carl Johnson...6-5, 345 pounds, 5.48 in the 40 (combine timed) Southern High School, Durham, NC
Offers...30+ offers...Schools...Johnson committed to Florida on June 4
Notes...Johnson is the state's premier prospect and its finest offensive lineman prospect since Brandon Jefferies and Derek Morris. He has impressive size, strength, and agility, and is an outstanding pass protector. The sky is the limit for Johnson, who has the natural ability to contribute as a true freshman.
NC State connection...NC State offered Johnson, and he was a major in-state target.
2. LB Brandon Spikes ...6-4, 230 pounds, 4.7 in the 40...Crest High School, Shelby, NC
Offers...30+ offers....Schools...NC State, UNC, Miami, Florida, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech...Leader...Spikes is wide open
Notes...Spikes is pushing Johnson for the top spot, as he was outstanding at the invite-only Shrine Bowl combine. He has ideal size for the linebacker position and really knows how to use his hands to shed blockers. He could eventually grow into a defensive end on the next level, but for now he projects nicely as a middle linebacker prospect.
NC State connection...Pack has offered, and he is a major in-state target.
3. DT Aleric Mullins...6-2, 291 pounds, 5.04 in the 40 (combine timed) East Wake High School, Wendell, NC
Offers...20+ ...Schools...NC State, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Nebraska, Missouri...Leader... Mullins is wide open
Notes... Explosive is the best word to describe Mullins, who is a high-energy that thrives on making plays. His agility, speed, and attacking style makes him the ideal defensive tackle prospect. Mullins is still a little raw, but physically he has all the tools.
NC State connection...NC State has offered, and he is a major in-state target.
4. LB Deunta Williams...6-2, 191 pounds, 4.85 in the 40 (combine timed) White Oak High School, Jacksonville, NC
Offers...NC State, UNC, Duke, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Virginia...Schools...Williams committed to UNC on July 28, 2005
Notes...Williams has made plays his entire high school career and should have a bright future at UNC. He lacks ideal speed for the wide receiver and possibly the safety position, but has a great frame and could grow into a superb linebacker.
NC State connection...NC State recruited and offered Williams prior to his UNC commitment.
5. RB Josh Adams...5-11, 170 pounds, 4.5 in the 40 Cary (NC) High
Offers...Tennessee, Clemson, Maryland, Tennessee, NC State, UNC, Duke, Georgia ...Schools...Adams is open to everybody that has offered...Leader...Adams has yet to name a leader but a darkhorse could be Wake Forest
Notes...Adams is the premier in-state rusher entering the 2005 season. He lacks ideal size and will probably play another position on the next level, but his production and ability to make plays places him among the state's elite. Adams has amazing quickness and change-of-direction, and his balance separates him from the other top in-state backs.
NC State connection...NC State has offerd Adams, and he looks to be a major target for the Wolfpack.
6. ATH Crezdon Butler...6-0, 173 pounds, 4.47 in the 40 (combine timed) Asheville (NC) High School
Offers...NC State, Clemson, Virginia Tech, Virginia, UNC, South Carolina, Maryland...Schools...Butler committed to Clemson on August 4 2005
Notes...Butler is arguably the state's top athlete. Could line up as a WR or CB but likes playing defense. Needs to add weight but has impressive speed and ability to make big plays.
NC State connection...NC State offered Butler, and he was a major in-state target.
7. ATH LaMarcus Bond...5-9, 175 pounds, 4.4 in the 40...Hertford County High School, Ahoskie, NC
Offers...NC State, East Carolina, UNC, Virginia Tech, Virginia, South Carolina, Maryland, Duke, Clemson....Schools...NC State, UNC, Virginia, Virginia Tech...Leader...Bond has been somewhat noncommittal on a leader but State may be close
Notes...Bond is a fabulous high school athlete that you hand the ball of to and watch him go. Probably too smallish for RB but State likes as a Tramain Hall-type slot receiver and he appears to fit that mold perfectly. Extremely quick and elusive.
NC State connection...Pack has offered and he is a major in-state target
8. DT Ricardo Crawford...6-1, 296 pounds, 5.16 in the 40 (combine timed) W Columbus High School, Cerro Gordo, NC
Offers...Georgia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest...Schools...Committed to UGA on June 13, 2005
Notes...Don't let the small number of offers fool you. Crawford is a super DT prospect with great strength, quickness and a world of potential. Georgia doesn't target just anyone for it's DL (especially so early in the recruiting process) and they got a good one in Crawford.
NC State connection...The Wolfpack was very interested and reportedly planned to offer but Crawford committed to Georgia before this could happen.
9. CB Raeshon McNeil...6-0, 175 pounds, 4.69 in the 40 (combine timed) Davie County High School, Mocksville, NC
Offers...Notre Dame, UNC, Duke, Wake Forest, South Carolina, Virginia...Schools...Notre Dame, UNC, Virginia...Leader...Those three schools lead but we wouldn't be surprised to see him hook up with teammate "Cooter" Arnold at UNC
Notes...McNeil possesses a good frame and always seems to be in the right place at the right time on defense. Had five interceptions on defense last season and was effective on special teams as well. Speed may be somewhat of a concern. He doesn't have blistering speed so it's possible he could end up at Safety a couple years down the road.
NC State connection...NC State is recruiting McNeil but hasn't offered.
10. RB Johnny White...5-10, 189 pounds, 4.53 in the 40 (combine timed) Asheville (NC) High School
Offers...UNC, Arkansas, Wake Forest...Schools...White committed to UNC on July 25, 2005
Notes...White is one of North Carolina's premier rushers- having totaled better than 2,000 yards as a juniors. While not a blazer, he has impressive quickness. Should be a boost for the UNC RB corps in the years to come.
NC State connection...NC State recruited White but did not offer.
