One Florida prospect that has flown quietly under the radar this summer is WR Darrell Davis from Pasco High School in Dade City, Fla. Although rated just a one-star prospect by Scout.com, Davis' offer list seems to suggest a player that is deserving of quite a bit more.
At 6-5, 195 pounds and sporting a 4.61-second 40-yard dash, Davis put up some impressive stats in 2004 while sharing the spotlight with teammate and fellow division one prospect, WR Dominic Brown. On the year he collected 30 receptions for 650 yards and eight touchdowns on offense while racking up 45 tackles and an interception as a LB en route to all-county honors and all-state honorable mention.
Right now, Davis says he's being recruited equally for everything from WR to LB or S. Whatever the position, the rising senior has garnered scholarships from an impressive array of colleges including Nebraska, Iowa, Ole Miss, Louisville, UNC, NC State, South Carolina, Central Florida, South Florida and Georgia among others.
When it comes to favorites, the Pack appears to be a team getting some serious consideration.
"Right now, I like Florida State, South Carolina and USF," said Davis. "I would say NC State is in the number four or number five spot.
"The thing I like about NC State is they always have a wide open offense and they want me to play WR for them. I would highly consider going to a school like that and I hope I can get to some of their games this fall.. I really like the coaches up there."
Another school that appears to be in the mix is UNC. Davis talked about the Heels.
"I've been calling coach Bunting like every other week and UNC has some good academics so they're a team that's right up there as well."
While he's yet to set any official visits, Davis did give us a sneak preview of the schools he'd likely make trips to based on who he's looking at currently.
"I'd probably visit Southern Cal, South Carolina, Florida State, USF and NC State," he said.
Davis will likely take all of his official visits before making a decision. He said January is a likely time frame for him to select a school although he may wait to signing day to announce his choice.
