Camp Amato: Defense Starts "Soft" In Scrimmage

RALEIGH, NC -- NC State held the final scrimmage of fall practice today and Wolfpack head coach Chuck Amato met with the media afterwards. Listen to what Amato had to say about the play of his team.

Jay Davis -- 11-14 for 184 yards and one TD; completed first 10 passes of the scrimmage
Marcus Stone -- 9-17 122 yards and one TD

Darrell Blackman -- 5 carries for 75 yards (Long - 34 yards)
Andre Brown -- 5 carries for 81 yards and one TD (L- 61 yard TD)

T.J. Williams -- 3 catches for 99 yards (L-65-yard TD from Davis)
Geron James -- 5 catches for 89 yards and one TD
Lamart Barrett -- 4 catches for 28 yards

Stephen Tulloch -- 6 tackles and 3 sacks
J.C. Neal -- 7 tackles
Jeremy Gray -- 30-yard INT return (3rd-team)

The first and second-team offenses had zero turnovers on the day... Throughout the entire scrimmage (including situational plays), the defense recorded 19 total sacks... After posting strong numbers during the scrimmage, true freshman wideout Geron James spent extra time with position coach Dwayne Dixon running routes following practice.

"The defense started off soft. That great defense... that great defense that you people keep talking about started off soft. You keep writing about them and they'll just get softer and softer, and I'll call them Dairy Queen from now on."

"We moved the ball well offensively... Jay hit the first ten passes he threw."

"You never know with those [running backs]. I'll tell you what... anyone of them can go yard at any time."
