Lawson Added To Lombardi Watch List

Raleigh, N.C. - NC State senior Manny Lawson has just been added to the Watch List for the Lombardi Award. The Executive Committee of the Rotary Lombardi Award released the updated version of their official Watch List, featuring the names of 123 players.

The preliminary 2005 list had been released in early May and contained 54 names. Lawson joins fellow defensive end Mario Williams on this prestigious list.

Last season, Manny Lawson was a second-team All-ACC performer, his first season at defensive end after playing his first two seasons as an outside linebacker. He finished sixth in the ACC with seven sacks, and ranked third on the nation's top-ranked defense with 12 tackles for loss. Lawson is also on the watch list for the Bednarik Award, given to the nation's top defensive player.

The Rotary Lombardi Award will celebrate its 36th year of honoring the finest linemen in college football n December 7 at the Hilton Americas Hotel in Downtown Houston. All net proceeds from the dinner and related activities are donated to the American Cancer Society. Since the first dinner in 1971, nearly $3.1 million has been raised through the efforts of Rotarians and their guests.

This year's Watch List is divided up nearly equally, with 58 offensive players and 63 defensive players who meet the playing criteria currently on the list. To be eligible for the Rotary Lombardi Award, a player my play on the line of scrimmage (including tight ends on offensive) or must be a linebacker who lines up within five yards of the football.
