DE Jason Ayers from Marlboro County High School in Bennettsville, SC has been a tough man to track down this summer but he's been fairly easy to spot if you're fortunate enough to take in a Marlboro contest. Although his team has struggled to a 1-2 record, Ayers has done his part as he's registered 33 tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles through the first three games of the season.
On the recruiting front, Ayers reports a written offer from Tennessee and a verbal offer from NC State. He recently told Pack Pride that Virginia Tech has offered as well.
"I've still got the Tennessee and NC State offers, and I think Virginia Tech has offered as well," he said. "Right now, those three are my top schools, and I'm looking at all three pretty much the same."
At 6-3, 220 pounds, Ayers likely projects as a defensive end in college. That position will be a major need in the class of 2006 and the three-star prospect got a chance to see the Wolfpack up close this past weekend during their contest with Virginia Tech. It was a return trip for Ayers but an enjoyable visit, nonetheless.
"I really liked the trip and I had a lot of fun," said Ayers. "I kind of focused on Manny and Mario but, really, I like the whole defense. I think the main thing is I just want to go somewhere where I can help my team win."
So far Ayers has fielded a call from Tennessee. He is rated the No. 21 prospect in South Carolina by SuperPrep magazine.
