Closer Look: Defensive Statistics

After grading the game film, NC State released the official stats from the Wolfpack's opener against Virginia Tech. Here are the defensive statistics after week one.

Defensive Linemen
Mario Williams

Williams played 61 snaps against Virginia Tech and recorded five total tackles, including four solos.

John McCargo
McCargo tallied nine tackles and two quarterback pressures after playing 59 snaps. McCargo recorded six solo tackles and two tackles for loss.

Manny Lawson
Lawson played 61 snaps and finished with four tackles (three solos) and a sack.

DeMario Pressley
Pressley tallied two tackles (one solo) while playing 28 snaps.

Tank Tyler
Tyler finished with three total tackles after playing 33 snaps.

Martrel Brown
Brown played two snaps against the Hokies.

Renaldo Moses
Moses played three snaps against the Hokies.

Stephen Tulloch

Tulloch played 64 snaps against Virginia Tech and led the Wolfpack with 13 tackles, including nine solos. Tulloch also notched two tackles for loss. He ranks second in the ACC, averaging 13 tackles per game.

Oliver Hoyte
Hoyte tallied nine tackles and a sack after playing 48 snaps. Eight of his tackles were solos, and his sack was for a loss of eight yards.

Ernest Jones
Jones received his first extended action at linebacker, playing seven snaps. He also recorded a critical sack of Marcus Vick deep in NC State territory, and another solo tackle.

Lerue Rumph
Rumph, making his first career start at linebacker, was in on 43 plays and finished with four tackles including two solos.

Pat Lowery
Lowery had one tackle after playing seven snaps.

Defensive Backs
Garland Heath

Heath played 54 snaps against Virginia Tech, notching eight tackles (two solos) while also breaking up two passes.

Marcus Hudson
Hudson recorded four tackles and two pass breakups after playing 59 snaps. He also recorded a four yard tackle for loss against the Hokies.

Miguel Scott
Scott played 59 snaps against Virginia Tech, finishing with five tackles (one solo) after making his first career start.

A.J. Davis
Davis played in 53 snaps, registering two solo tackles and a pass breakup.

J.J. Jones
Jones had two tackles after playing 29 snaps.

Jimmie Sutton
Sutton played 16 snaps against the Hokies.

Phillip Holloman
Holloman played five snaps against the Hokies.
