At 6-feet and 170 pounds, wide receiver Damien Linson has been busy with camps this summer. "I've been to N.C. State and Wake Forest camps," Linson said. "I'm going to East Carolina's next week and I've also been to some basketball camps as well." Linson said he had a busy spring talking to college coaches. "UNC called, NC State, Virginia, Maryland, Wake Forest, and Duke. I like some of the Florida schools, but they haven't been calling." The standout wide receiver does not yet have any scholarship offers, but talked about his early favorites. "My top four would probably be Florida State, Maryland, NC-Chapel Hill, and [N.C.] State."

Profile Update - April 11, 2002: (Brian McLain * TSW)
Damien Linson from Plymouth High School made his national debut at the Nike Training Camp in Chapel Hill. While Michael Mason (UNC commitment) may have gotten all the awards, the surprise player of the day had to be Damien. He ran some of the best routes while showing he could dazzle opponents and fans alike with some of his acrobatic catches. He was competing against some of the top defensive backs in the Class of 2003, and he made many of them look like they did not belong.

In a recent interview, Plymouth's Football Coach Cherry said this about his star player. "Damien comes from a single parent household who's mother has done an outstanding job. He is a humble and good kid who has worked hard on bettering himself academically and athletically. The last two years you could see him maturing. He is just a great person."

According to Cherry, Damien is the best athlete to come out of Plymouth since he has been there. "He has been a starter since his freshman year and racked up 1300 yards in receiving as a sophomore. Last year he scored 19 touchdowns and had 64 receptions for 1200 yards. "His biggest asset as a football player is his ability to run after he catches the ball. You have to see it to believe it. He is a true play maker." Linson uses his play making skills as a punt returner and defensive back. He ran back 2 punts for touchdowns and scored 2 more on interceptions.

Damien's debut at Nike has caused an explosion in interest. Coach Cherry noted that Virginia and Duke are now involved. Cherry said, "Virginia called this week and said they plan on going after him hard. East Carolina has also called and would like to get him in Greenville." The other schools that are involved are UNC, NC State, Florida, Florida State and Miami. Linson is on schedule to qualify. He currently has a 930 SAT and a 2.8 GPA.

Coach Cherry believes Damien is the best receiver in the state. "I may be biased, but I have recruiters telling me as much. He is just that special."
