The expectations were so high for Tramain Hall last year. He was coming off a 69-catch season in 2003 and was named the Most Outstanding Back for the North Carolina State football team. Then something happened. The offense changed. And quarterback Phillip Rivers graduated. The result was a letdown junior season for Hall, but it appears he's on his way to a big senior year. He caught eight passes for 97 yards in the season opener against Virginia Tech and has again become a focal point of the offense. Read More

N.C. State broke the $1 million barrier assembling Chuck Amato's first coaching staff in 2000. Five years after the Wolfpack joined Texas in setting new standards for assistant football coaches' compensation, however, the seven-figure payroll neighborhood is not nearly as exclusive. Scheduled to pay Amato's nine-coach staff a combined $1.2 million this year, State currently ranks third among ACC public schools -- behind Clemson and Florida State -- in combined base salaries for football assistants.
