NC State will continue it's quest to fortify the defensive line this season and has targeted another Florida standout in DT Abre Leggins Evans High School in Orlando, Fla.
At 6-3, 275 pounds and boasting 4.88-second speed in the 40-yard dash, Leggins finished off 2004 with an impressive 40 tackles, six sacks and two forced fumbles. So far in 2005, Evans is off to a slow, 0-3 start with Leggins doubling as both an offensive and defensive tackle. On defense he's notched 12 tackles.
On the recruiting scene, the senior tackle has earned scholarship offers from Temple, Florida Atlantic, Ole Miss and Florida International with interest coming from NC State, Florida, Clemson, Iowa State, Central Florida, Kentucky and Colorado State. Most schools are recruiting Leggins as a defensive tackle, including NC State, and the Pack has made an early call to check in on the standout lineman.
"Coach Dwayne Dixon is recruiting me and he called this month just to ask me how my games were going and to let me know he was coming down in a couple weeks to watch me play," said Leggins. "He said they wanted to watch a few games before they decided whether they were going to offer. But I'm looking at State because they have a good tradition and I like the coaching staff. They really have a good defense."
Despite the interest in the Pack, an offer from the Florida Gators could seal the deal with Leggins as he currently lists the in-state school as his top choice.
"Yeah, Florida would be number one right now," said Leggins. "I grew up a fan of them to tell you the truth. I really like Urban Meyer and I think he's got everything under control there and my parents really like them."
Leggins rounded out his top five with Florida, NC State, Clemson, Michigan State and Ole Miss. He plans to take all of his official visits before making a decision but has yet to set up any.
