    Update - June 9, 2002: (Mike Bakas * The Insiders.com)
At 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds, Fontel Mines is among the most heavily recruited players in the state of Virginia right now. "I got calls last month from Virginia Tech, Michigan, Tennessee, Virginia, Wake Forest, and N.C. State," he said. "Virginia Tech has already offered and so did the University of Richmond." While Mines says he doesn't have a clear favorite yet, four schools do stick out. "The schools I like the best right now are Virginia Tech, UVA, Florida, and Michigan." Mines talked highly of the Hokies. "That's a good school," he said. "They have a good background and they've recruited really well recently. They just signed Marcus Vick and that's always a good opportunity for a wide receiver." Mines plans on camping at Virginia and Maryland this summer, and also plans on attending the one-day camp at Wake Forest this Sunday.

Scouting Report - April 16, 2002: (Scott Kennedy * BorderWars)
Ever since Randy Moss broke on the scene at Marshall, he has been the standard by which tall wide receivers are measured. Fontel Mines is built in that same mold. At 6'4 and 210 pounds with 4.4 speed, Mines is the prototypical big target that coaches covet. "Fontel has great speed and size," said Hermitage coach Patrick Fane. "He runs well and catches the bal well. Pretty much every team in the ACC is recruiting him hard, along with teams like Virginia Tech and Penn State. He projects as a wide receiver for us, but I know North Carolina wants him as a free safety."

6'4 wide receivers that can run are always a hot commodity, and Mines lists his early favorites as Virginia, NC State, Maryland, Penn State, and Virginia Tech. Read entire article on BorderWars
