After the 27-19 loss to Wake Forest Saturday, Amato stood just beyond an end zone where Wake defenders twice visited with the football and sounded exasperated by his lack of a clear-cut No. 1 quarterback. Earlier in the week, Amato insisted that, "We do not have a quarterback controversy here." That's still true. He doesn't have a controversy, he has a quandary. On one play in the first quarter, N.C. State quarterback Jay Davis showed why Wolfpack fans have been clamoring for his replacement, Marcus Stone. On one play in the third quarter, Stone showed why State's coaches have been so reluctant to make that switch. Those two plays -- both interceptions returned for touchdowns -- were the difference in State's 27-19 loss to Wake Forest on Saturday.
